Notary Public

Suffern Free Library offers free Notary Public services in accordance with the following guidelines:

  1. Appointments: Call (845) 357-1237 to schedule. Walk-ins served based on notary availability.
  2. Requirements: Patron must appear in person, show valid government photo ID, and sign in the Notary’s presence.
  3. Service Limitations: No virtual/electronic notarizations. Max 10 documents per person per day.
  4. Communication: Notary and patron must communicate directly; translators are not allowed.
  5. Document Language: Non-English documents may be declined at the Notary’s discretion.
  6. Document Readiness: Forms must be complete, except for signatures.
  7. Witnesses: Not provided by the library. Witnesses must appear with valid ID and sign in person.
  8. Excluded Documents: No notarization of deeds, real estate documents, wills, trusts, divorce papers, immigration/I-9 forms, or vital records.
  9. Right to Refuse: Notary may decline service if there are concerns about authenticity, legality, or ambiguity.
